The traveller sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see. – G.K. Chesterton
This is one of the lesser known things about Dubrovnik and Dubrovnik Republic in general; just how much advanced they were when it comes to medicine and alternative medicine. Most of our tour will focus on the Franciscan monastery situated at the beginning of the main street of Stradun. This place is home to one of the oldest pharmacies in the world, and what is thought to be the oldest pharmacy in Europe that is still operating.
Can you imagine that?! Google it! It has been continuously working since the 1317.
Fascinatingly enough, medicine is still produced in the monastery with a huge garden that can be seen even from the bird's perspective - the city walls.
Explore the monastery which holds the pharmacy museum as you listen to more fascinating stories. We would recommend bringing home a souvenir, and we will be more than happy to help you choose – a crowd favorite is the rose facial crème!
This is also one of the favorite spots for wedding photography, just look at the photo of those two!
